Around fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Police report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then located numerous other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police state early analysis suggest the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to its source; investigators are not yet aware of any injuries in association with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were working "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the public for information.
A senior official commented the incident left him stunned and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, recalling the murder of nine victims by a assailant focusing on residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
